The Cay

I have enjoyed reading The Cay by Theodore Taylor. I hope you did too! The author, Mr. Taylor, dedicated The Cay to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream. Mr. Taylor states that King's dream "can only come true if the very young know and understand."

Please respond to the following:
Why did Mr. Taylor dedicate The Cay to Dr. King? Support your answer from the text.

Do you think Phillip was prejudice? Do you think he grew as a character? Give examples from the the text to support your answer.

Eco-columns

This quarter in science as part of your study of ecosystems you constructed an eco-column. Tell me several things you learned about plant and animal interaction (be sure to use some of the vocabulary words you learned) and then tell me what you enjoyed about this unit.

Our Heritage

Last quarter in social studies we studied geography. This quarter we are focusing on society and culture and, in particular, we are looking at immigration and migration and the foods, clothing, holidays and customs of various countries. It seems to me that leaving everything familiar and one's family would be very difficult, not to mention risky.

In light of the above, please respond to the following:
Why do people leave their homelands and all that is familiar, to come to America? Would you?
